Connexión Buddy Leadership Program

A team of Helios 7th are collaborating with 7th and 8th graders from the Connect Community Charter School in Redwood City to offer enrichment sessions to 1st through 3rd graders. The goals are to help build perseverance and stamina when the students become discouraged and to practice the Helios Learner Outcomes of Perspectives, Connection, and Belonging and Justice. 

Conexión Buddy Leadership Program volunteers apply at the end of the school year to be selected as a Buddy. Students spend several weeks training to become effective leaders–especially listening, patience, and sharing information about themselves.

The enrichment sessions include Puzzle Labs and Story Buddies. Puzzle Labs help kids practice problem solving skills such as perseverance and stamina. In Story Buddies, they read books together and then do activities based on the stories.
